Everton Manager Provides Injury Update Ahead Of Newcastle Clash

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Alex Iwobi will be unavailable for Tuesday night's home clash with Newcastle United (7.30pm).

Richarlison missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at West Ham United with a minor knee issue, while Sigurdsson was sidelined with a groin problem.

Iwobi, who has been out since suffering a hamstring injury in Everton's 0-0 draw against Arsenal on 21 December, is nearing a return but will be unable to feature against the Magpies.

Ancelotti added Michael Keane's fitness will be assessed ahead of the match after a neck problem kept him out of last weekend's game at London Stadium.

"Richarlison trained today [Monday] but he still has pain, so he is not available," said Ancelotti, who was speaking at his pre-match press conference.

ANCELOTTI ON RICHARLISON, SIGURDSSON AND IWOBI

Boss provides injury update ahead of Newcastle United clash.

"Iwobi is doing well but we don’t want to take a risk for the game. He will stay here [at USM Finch Farm] to train.

"Gylfi Sigurdsson is out. Michael Keane trained today, he was not so comfortable. We are going to decide [on his availability] on Tuesday.

"We have had a busy time, a lot of games. After this game, we have a period where we can train properly, have a good rest and, on the injury aspect, it will be better."

Ancelotti also provided an update on the progress of Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

Gomes has recently returned to USM Finch Farm to step up his rehabilitation from ankle surgery after a spell recuperating in Portugal, while Gbamin is recovering from thigh surgery.

"Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are training individually and everything is going well, but it takes time," Ancelotti said. "They suffered big injuries.

"Gbamin has started partial training with the team and we will see [how he reacts] in the next days."
