Ancelotti On Why He Has Found 'Fantastic Family' At Everton

Carlo Ancelotti says he has “found a fantastic family” at Everton – and the Club has all the “conditions” to support its “big ambitions”.

Italian Ancelotti was addressing Shareholders at the Club’s General Meeting at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall three-and-a-half weeks after being appointed manager on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The 60-year-old boasts one of football’s most enviable CVs with three Champions League victories and domestic titles in four of Europe’s major leagues.

Ancelotti, also twice a European Cup winner as a player, insisted accepting the offer to manage Everton was a straightforward decision.

Formerly in charge of AC Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Ancelotti has won three of his four Premier League matches with Everton after starting with a 1-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day.

“The reception was fantastic on my first day at Goodison Park and it is still fantastic,” said Ancelotti as he climbed on stage.

“So thank you very much, everyone.

“I have never been in a meeting like this, it is interesting to see how you all love this club.

“It is a new experience for me and really exciting.

“I found a fantastic club with fantastic history and tradition.

“And I found a fantastic family, which is really important for me.”

Chief Finance and Commercial Officer on new naming rights contract and how it will allow stadium project to progress.

Ancelotti spent two years in the Premier League with Chelsea and led the London club to a Double in his first campaign in 2009/10.

He came to Everton after caretaker and popular former striker Duncan Ferguson rejuvenated the team, beating Chelsea and claiming draws against Manchester United and Arsenal.

“Duncan explained how it is to be an Evertonian,” said Ancelotti, who has also overseen a victory at Newcastle United and Saturday's 1-0 success against Brighton & Hove Albion.

“He invited me and all the staff for a dinner and paid for everything.

“It is a really exciting moment for me [to be at Everton].

“Honestly, my experience in the Premier League was really exciting at Chelsea… the fact Everton was interested was really good for me.

“I didn’t take a lot of time to decide I wanted to come.

“I found a lot of good things: the passion of the supporters and a fantastic training facility, one of the best I’ve seen.

“There are a lot of conditions which allow me to say we can have big ambitions.”

Ancelotti’s appointment was popularly acclaimed by Evertonians and the boss is keen to harness his immediate connection with supporters for the greater good.

“We have to stay together, it will take time and we have to be patient,” added Ancelotti.

“But there are all the conditions [in place to achieve success].

“The club has big ambitions and the passion of the supporters is strong.

“The connection the supporters have with the players and team is really important

“We have to improve this with a better quality of football and spirit during games and the players’ sense of belonging.

“The supporters have to be there. Goodison Park has to be our house, our home, where our players can show all their best qualities.

“Goodison has to be a difficult place for our opponents to play.”

Ancelotti added: “I love my job and try to do it to the best of my ability.

“I like to have good relationship with the Club and players and supporters.

“Everton is a big club with a lot of history and big ambition.”
