Davies Explains How Everton's Young Talents Are Driving Each Other On

Tom Davies has explained how the support, advice and encouragement Everton’s young players offer each other is helping to elevate their performance levels.

Everton’s win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park on Saturday means the Blues have taken 14 points from their past seven Premier League games, with 21-year-old midfielder Davies featuring in each of those matches.

Defender Mason Holgate, 23, and 22-year-old striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also been ever-presents during that period as Everton have steadily climbed the Premier League table.

Just four points now separate the Blues from sixth-placed Sheffield United.

“I’ve known Mason and Dom for a long time and played with them for a long time, so it’s good to have them around me,” Davies told evertontv.

“We all try to improve each other’s games.

“If I see something I can help Dom with or he can help me with, we speak to each other, likewise with Mason. They’re quality players and I’m made up to be a part of it with them.

"It’s the same throughout the team, really. Together we’re all trying to improve.

“For me, it’s all about playing games. I’m looking to improve, I’m still young.

“I want to play as much as I can, try to build some momentum and carry on those good performances.”

Davies produced a mature all-round midfield display in Everton's success against Brighton.

DAVIES: EVERTON'S YOUNG TALENTS DRIVING EACH OTHER ON

Midfielder says Blues eager to build momentum.

Playing alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson, the England Under-21 international’s work-rate, intensity and intelligent use of the ball impressed throughout.

As well as winning four tackles – a total not bettered by any player on the pitch – he also recovered possession five times for his team.

“It’s about setting up how to play and what positions to be in so I can offer for the ball,” he said of his role.

“We worked on it as a team all week.

“For me and Gylfi, playing as a midfield two, it’s about keeping things secure and supporting [the attackers] where we can.

“On the whole, I think we did that well – they didn’t break on us too much and it was a good performance.”

Davies also set out Everton’s ambition to sustain their strong Premier League form when the Blues take on West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

“We’ve only lost to Man City in the past seven and we’ll definitely be looking to go and win,” he added.

“We’ve been doing well in the league and we’re all focussed on keeping that going and pushing up the table.”
