Tuesday’s local and national newspapers report on Everton signing talented 17-year-old defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Carlisle United.

Branthwaite has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal until the end of June 2022 and will link up with the Blues’ Under-23s team.

Quotes from Branthwaite feature in the Liverpool Echo and Daily Mail, with the teenage centre-back explaining why Everton’s history of developing young players for the first team was a key factor in his decision to join the Club.

“The pathway is superb,” he said. “I just can’t wait to get started. Everton is a big club and I’m buzzing to be here.”

The Echo also links Everton with a move for Red Bull Salzburg’s South Korean forward Hwang Hee-Chan, who has hit nine goals and provided 12 assists in 22 appearances this season.

Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also rumoured to be interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Italian paper Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, suggests Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino is a transfer target for Everton.

The 28-year-old Uruguay international has won 43 caps for his country.
