DCL Discusses Richarlison Link-Up And 'Vital' Everton Response

Dominic Calvert-Lewin revealed how he is relishing linking up with strike partner Richarlison after the Brazilian scored the winner in Everton’s 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The attacker also declared it was “vital” the Blues delivered a response after last weekend’s Merseyside derby disappointment.

Richarlison’s goal means he has joined Calvert-Lewin in hitting double figures for the campaign.

His superbly-taken 38th-minute effort ultimately proved decisive as Everton secured a deserved win over Graham Potter’s Brighton at Goodison Park.

The Blues have won three of their four Premier League games since manager Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment.

Calvert-Lewin had the ball in the back of the net himself in the second half – bundling home after Michael Keane’s header struck the crossbar – but saw the goal chalked off for handball.

“I just threw my body at it,” Calvert-Lewin explained.

“There were bodies in the way, and it didn’t intentionally hit my arm. It was disappointing not to get the goal, but I’m delighted for Richy to score.

“We’re sharing the goals and we’re happy to be doing so. We’re working hard for each other.

“It was so important we showed a response after last week’s game. It was bitterly, bitterly disappointing and was important we picked ourselves up. The three points today were vital.

“It was down to us to get the fans behind us and show them we were ready to bounce back.

“We had to show fighting spirit and they got behind us. It was important we worked hard and won our individual battles, and we got our rewards.”

Calvert-Lewin delivered another powerful centre-forward display, with his skill, strength and hold-up play again impressing.

He also provided a consistent goal threat and rained in four of Everton’s 14 shots at goal.

Ancelotti Salutes 'Complete Forward' Richarlison

Boss speaks to evertontv after Brighton victory.

The former Sheffield United player was involved in a compelling battle with hulking Brighton centre-backs Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy, and explained how he savours such challenges. Next up for Calvert-Lewin and Everton is an away game at West Ham United next Saturday (3pm) before Newcastle United visit Goodison three days later.

“Every game you’re up against grizzly centre-halves and I enjoy the physical battle,” Calvert-Lewin added.

“I like it when defenders want to get physical with me because that’s how I like to play.

“For me, it was an enjoyable game. I got a few knocks but it’s part and parcel of the game and thankfully we got the result.

“It was important we got some momentum going again as we approach this run of games.”
