What Crop Of Football's Greatest Said About Ancelotti

Here's what some of the most high-profile names in football have said about Everton's new manager, Carlo Ancelotti.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Carlo is one of the best and most important people that I met in my entire time in football.

From the first time I met him [when he became Real Madrid manager], he made me feel very comfortable.

You then see the way he works, the way he is as a person – not just with the players but with the staff and his employers at the club – and then you begin to understand why everyone speaks so highly of him.

You can tell how good a coach is when he is on the training ground. In my opinion, Carlo is one of the best out there. He is a special coach.

He understands the players, he was one once, so he has the experience. He knows how to get the most out of a team. It’s no coincidence we won almost everything.

David Beckham

I think he is a manager any player would love playing under. He commands respect because he’s been so successful over so many years, but it’s not only that. He’s a nice guy and players want to play and win for him.

When we talk about Carlo being a nice guy, you have to understand that on the pitch he is very demanding. He always works the players hard because he knows what it takes to be successful.

There’s not one thing that you could surprise Carlo with on the tactical side of things.

Firstly, because he’s Italian, and they take this part of the game very seriously, and secondly, because he knows everything about the game that needs to be known.

Carlo was very relaxed but if you weren’t playing well and if you weren’t doing the right things what he said to do, then you would know about it.

If there’s one thing that gets him angry it’s bad attitude – not being ‘serious’, as he says. For him, you have to do things right to be successful and to be the best at the highest level.

I love Carlo. He is the best for me. He is one of the most incredible managers and people.

Paulo Maldini

Carlo’s knowledge of global football is enormous. He has mind-boggling experience of every aspect of the game.

Even as a player, he was an outstanding organiser and reader of the game, full of ideas.

For Carlo, the idea of family is everything. The secret of our track record is that he is a regular guy. There’s no need for him to be the Special One to win.

At AC Milan, from the times of Arrigo Sacchi onwards, we’ve had a lot of coaches, nearly all of them winners.

Leaving aside the question of methods and results, if I were to ask who brought the best quality of life in those years, I’d have to say it was Carlo.

Sir Alex Ferguson

Carlo is a gentleman, but a gentleman with purpose.

He has this quiet manner about him, which allows him to really listen. People who know how to listen take a lot in.

I’ve always known that his teams were very difficult to beat and that they played with expression.

He is a good man and a great coach.

John Terry

Carlo’s man-management was the best I’ve ever had, but what really impressed me were his training sessions, his understanding of players and people.

One of the things he was obsessed about, which was great for me, was working with the defence.

We’d work on movement and shape all the time, getting distance between players right.  We were so well drilled going into games, which is why we had such a great period under him.

You know his training is excellent because he’s coached the best teams in the world, but it’s the personal touches, when he asks questions like, ‘How’s your dad? I heard he’s not been well,’ they mean a lot. You think, ‘How do you even know that?’.

He knows because he genuinely cares, and he takes time to care. That’s why his players love him. That’s what makes him the very best. He is, for me, the ultimate.

CONQUEROR CARLO'S LIST OF HONOURS

We take a look at our new manager's stellar career as a player and boss.

Alessandro Nesta

When you talk about Carlo and the game, you have to understand how clever he is with tactics.

He was always prepared to listen and learn and then to change if he thought it would benefit the team.

In training Carlo was very strong. He would build a winning mentality throughout the club. He was the most important coach in my career because he changed my mentality.

When I think about Carlo, I naturally compare him to other coaches I have played under, like Dino Zoff and Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Eriksson was a good coach and a good person but if you ask me what the difference was, I won two Champions Leagues with Carlo.

He’s the best.
