Caretaker Boss Provides Everton Team News Update

Duncan Ferguson says Gylfi Sigurdsson's availability for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Leicester City at Goodison Park "will go to the wire" after the Icelandic playmaker missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United through illness.

Everton are also waiting on the fitness of Djibril Sidibe, with illness having also sidelined the France right-back for the Old Trafford encounter.

Lucas Digne will not be available after he went off with a groin injury during the first half at United.

Ferguson added Fabian Delph is nearing a return but is not expected to be ready for the Leicester clash.

“Lucas got a strain on his groin area so how long it’s going to be, I’m not quite sure, but obviously he won’t be fit for Wednesday,” Ferguson told evertontv.

“Delph is closer but I think the game will come too soon for him.

”We’re hopeful on Gylfi. We’ll wait and see. That’ll go right to the wire, I think.”

Oumar Niasse has returned to the Everton matchday squad for the Blues’ past two matches, with Cuco Martina on the bench for Sunday’s game at Old Trafford.

Ferguson praised the hunger and application each member of his squad has shown.

“Everybody is on board, I want to include everybody,” he added.

“It’s all hands to the pump, these are all good guys. They try their very, very best and I’m delighted to have them on board.”
