Marco Silva insists his Everton team must “enjoy and embrace the challenge” when the Blues take on Liverpool at Anfield in the 234th Merseyside derby on Wednesday night (8.15pm).
The Everton manager acknowledged the Toffees face a tough test against Jurgen Klopp’s in-form side but is confident they boast the quality to achieve a positive result.
Silva called on his players to summon a similar performance to the one produced at Anfield last season, when only an unfortunate last-minute goal earned the home team maximum points.
Everton had delivered an impressive all-round display, attacking with speed and purpose and defending diligently throughout.
“Let’s go with big motivation and with big courage to embrace the challenge like we did last season,” Silva said.
“Let’s go there to play. We have to enjoy it. It will be a tough game for sure. It is a special game for the city, for our fans.
“It is a fantastic game to play. When you play derbies, it is always a fantastic atmosphere. We have to enjoy the game.
“All the players in the world have to enjoy when you are talking about Everton-Liverpool or Liverpool-Everton matches.

“They are doing a very good season. But one of the toughest games they had last season at home maybe was against us. It was a really good game from both teams.
“The result was unfair. It was harsh for us.
“I saw Everton embrace the challenge to play there - to play to win at Anfield and play face-to-face with them. We did a very good game. If we can repeat the same type of performance it will be very good, because in this way it will be tough for them.
“We were there to win the match and that’s what we will do tomorrow. Our ambition is to go there and get three points.”
Silva added he has been encouraged by the application and desire his squad showed at Leicester City on Sunday – and in training every day at USM Finch Farm.
“They are fighting and working really hard to change the last results and find the results we need,” he added.
“We gave the right answer [against Leicester] after the performance against Norwich.
"Before the match, I said I expect a good reaction – and we did that. Unfortunately, we did not achieve the result we wanted
“When you are in this job, you want to win every single match.”
