Players Must Make Amends For Norwich Defeat, Says Coleman

Seamus Coleman admitted Everton's 2-0 home loss against Norwich City was "not good enough" but says the Club's players must repay fans with "actions, not words".

The Blues had lost only one of their previous five games before Saturday and were unbeaten in three at home.

However, second-half goals from Todd Cantwell and substitute Dennis Srbeny condemned Everton to their seventh defeat this season to leave them 15th in the Premier League table. The Blues had 18 efforts at goal and sent seven on target but could find no way past Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul.

"We're massively disappointed, obviously," said Coleman. "We were playing in front of our home fans after a really good result against Southampton and we didn't show up. It's a very disappointing day for us.

"We probably weren't patient enough at times. They sat in, made it difficult for us and broke well.

"Maybe we tried to force things at times but, look, it wasn't good enough.

"Everton fans aren't going to want to listen to me talking and saying the right things - it's only actions on the pitch that can help us, not words.

"We're not winning as many games as we'd like. The fans pay a lot of money to come and support us home and away, and they want to see results. We didn't give them that today."

Everton now head into a run of December fixtures that starts with trips to two of the Premier League's top four in Leicester City and Liverpool before the visit of another in the shape of in-form Chelsea.

The Blues then travel to Manchester United and host Arsenal either side of a home Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Leicester.

Everton ended last season by recording wins against three of those opponents in Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

And Coleman says Everton's players must embrace the opportunity to again prove themselves against the current leading sides.

"We're playing for a massive club, our fans expect the best and at the minute we've not been doing that," he said.

"Obviously we feel the pressure but that's our job and we need to start showing up on the pitch.

"I will always look at the players first, look at what we're doing right or wrong first.

"The manager didn't go out there today and play against Norwich. We made a couple of mistakes and we got punished and it's not good enough for Everton Football Club.

"We did well against these teams last season so we're more than capable of getting results and we can't have that mindset [that we cannot].

"We have to believe as players. We know it's going to be difficult, but we have to believe."
