Davies Reveals Key To Excellent Form

Tom Davies says he is feeling more equipped than ever to cope with the robust demands of Premier League football.

Midfielder Davies has gone from strength to strength since being recalled to Everton’s team for last month’s victory over West Ham United.

He scored in the Blues’ win at Southampton 10 days ago before reporting for international duty with England Under-21s.

The recent swirl of attention around Davies has homed in on the player's first Everton goal in 18 months – which he intends to use as the springboard to feature more regularly on the scoresheet – coupled with his quick and progressive distribution.

But the 21-year-old’s combative streak has been equally vital to him making an unqualified success of his anchoring role in manager Marco Silva's team.

"I am feeling strong and fit – that side of my game is coming along and I can feel it out on the pitch," Davies told evertontv.

“I have always done extra in the gym and I am a vegetarian now.

“I feel strong and also that I am growing into the physicality of the Premier League. I am happy with everything and how things are going for me.

“Scoring is an area of my game I can still improve on a lot and it is definitely something I need to do more.

“I know I can get goals, it is a case of finding opportunities in games to score.

“I managed to get one at Southampton, so I’ll look back at how I did that and try to recreate it in more games.”

Everton’s midfield has been hit by injury and suspension this season, creating significant flux in that area of the field.

Davies has partnered both Andre Gomes and Morgan Schneiderlin in the past month. In Everton’s most recent home game, the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, he played in a more advanced position next to Portuguese Gomes, with Fabian Delph on guard behind that pair.

Davies is keen to dispense with the ‘youngster’ label attached to him since making his first-team debut aged 17 in April 2016.

He nevertheless admits to seeking pointers from colleagues, including England international Delph, in his bid to evolve as a footballer.

Equally, Davies credits his senior position with England Under-21s – who are in Holland for a friendly on Tuesday – for assisting his development.

"When I haven’t been playing at Everton I have had a chance to go there and play," said Davies.

"I feel like a responsible figure in that team.

"It is massively helping me, the coaching staff there look after me, so I am grateful for that opportunity.

"At Everton, I am just looking to learn from everyone.

"Whether that is a younger lad coming in and doing something different, or the older lads who have been in the game a while.

"Fabian has won the Premier League and the older players have been around a long time and gained a lot of experience.

"It [what you are aiming to learn] is simple things like game management.

"You are always looking to improve as a player.

"I am not going to settle for being at the level I am now."
