Monday’s Liverpool Echo reports on Everton’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the first-ever women’s Merseyside derby to be hosted at Anfield.

The match, played in front of more than 23,500 fans, was settled by Lucy Graham’s 45th-minute strike.

The paper says the attendance – which included a vocal following of Evertonians – shows there is a “strong appetite” for the women’s game in Merseyside.

Mason Holgate also features in the local read, with the defender explaining how improving his consistency in training has helped take his game to a new level.

The centre-back has been in impressive form for Everton and has started the Blues’ past three Premier League matches.

“Now there is a consistent base [to my performances in training],” Holgate says. “Some sessions will always be better than others but there is a minimum level.

“And my physicality has improved. I’m in the gym pretty much every day.”

The paper also carries a feature with former Everton midfielder Gareth Farrelly, who discusses how he has made a transition from being a professional footballer to becoming a solicitor.

In his current role, Farrelly focuses on helping fellow footballers avoid potential financial pitfalls.

“There's a huge amount written now about career transition, mental health and well-being and I think people can struggle when football finishes, especially when so much of their identity is associated with the game, and that can be really difficult if it's all you've ever known,” he explains.
