Pickford's England Rout Montenegro To Reach Euro 2020

Jordan Pickford played the full 90 minutes as England booked their place at Euro 2020 with a 7-0 demolition of Montenegro.

Harry Kane notched a first-half hat-trick and overtook Alan Shearer, Nat Lofthouse and Sir Tom Finney in the Three Lions' scoring charts (31) as Gareth Southgate's side secured qualification for a tournament that will be played across the continent but conclude with its semi-finals and final at Wembley.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Marcus Rashford were also on target for relentless England, who needed only a point to progress but were 5-0 ahead after just 37 minutes.

An Aleksandar Sofranac own goal and Tammy Abraham's first senior international strike completed the rout after the break.

A quiet night for Pickford, who earned his 24th cap, did produce one notable moment - a stunning reaction save to keep out a powerful header from Marko Simic on 26 minutes.

Elsewhere, Lucas Digne played every minute as France came from behind to record a 2-1 win over Moldova in Paris.

The world champions' place at next summer's Euros had already been assured ahead of kick off after Gylfi Sigurdsson's Iceland could only manage a goalless draw in Turkey.

Cenk Tosun was unavailable for the hosts - who themselves qualified with a point - while Sigurdsson captained his side throughout. Iceland can no longer qualify directly from Group H but will be involved in next year's play-offs.

Earlier on Thursday, defender Lewis Gibson played the final nine minutes of England Under-20s' 4-0 friendly win in Portugal, while Joao Virginia, on loan at Reading, kept a clean sheet as Portugal Under-21s drew 0-0 in a friendly with Slovenia.
