Everton Introduces Accessibility Tool For Official Club Website

Everton Football Club has announced the integration of accessibility tool Recite Me into the Club’s official website.

The award-winning software will enable visitors to evertonfc.com to access and customise the website to suit their individual needs.

Recite Me includes text-to-speech capabilities, support functions for people with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, text enlargement, an interactive dictionary, colour themes, a translation tool with more than 100 languages and many other functionalities.

Globally there are an estimated 285 million people with a visual impairment of some kind and around 10-15 per cent of the world’s population has dyslexia. In the UK alone, there are 1.5 million people with a learning disability and 4.2 million people who have English as a second language. That makes the Recite Me tool all the more important.

The innovative accessibility programme will help bring supporters closer to the Blues by allowing fans to understand and interact with the latest Everton content on the Club’s website hassle free regardless of disability, age or language.

Rachael Lomax, Access Advisor at Everton Football Club, said: “We’re delighted to be able to introduce Recite Me to the official Everton website. It is important that we have tools like this, that reflect the diversity of our fanbase, ensuring that everybody can connect with our Club easily and in a way that suits their individual needs.”

“At Everton we are always looking at innovative ways in which we can make the Club more accessible and inclusive for supporters, and implementing the Recite Me tool is another step in the right direction on this journey.”

Ross Linnett, Recite Me Founder and CEO, said: “Recite Me are proud to support Everton Football Club with their ‘All Together Now’ initiative to celebrate diversity and increase awareness. For Everton and other clubs it is crucial that they support their wider fan base online with accessibility and translation support. Football is a community where everyone should be able to come together regardless of their disability or nationality.”

Everton’s decision to integrate Recite Me into the official website is part of the Club’s ‘All Together Now’ initiative, which was launched in December 2018 to celebrate diversity and increase awareness of everything done by the Blues and Everton in the Community to promote equality and diversity.
