Pickford On Everton Squad's 'Emotion' After Gomes Injury

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford admitted Everton’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday “wasn’t about the result” after the match was marred by an injury to Andre Gomes.

Deep into the second half, Gomes was tackled by Son Heung-min and his momentum saw him collide with defender Serge Aurier.

Gomes’ distress after the challenge and the anguish of the Everton and Spurs players who surrounded the Portuguese underlined the severity of the injury.

Manager Marco Silva revealed Gomes has been taken to hospital and emphasised the 26-year-old will receive “all the support he needs from me, his teammates and the Club”.

Pickford described the strong depth of feeling in the Everton dressing room after the game.

“Today wasn’t really about the result, it was about Andre,” he said.

“I didn’t see it [the injury]. I was further away.

“A lot of people who did see it, their emotions are really down and upset. We all feel for Andre and we will support him in any way we can.

“He’s a great lad, a good teammate and good friend.”

Cenk Tosun hit a stoppage-time equaliser for Everton after Dele Alli had put the away side in front just after the hour mark.

On the game, Pickford added: “They went 1-0 up but as a group, we were playing well.

“After that, Andre suffered an injury and it’s hard to re-set and re-focus.

“It’s a good point in the end. We dug in. We showed character.

“But it’s about Andre and we wish him all the best.”
