Everton Star Sigurdsson In Contention For Goal Award

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s marvellous strike against West Ham United is a candidate to claim October’s Premier League Budweiser Goal of the Month award.

Everton midfielder Sigurdsson had been on the Goodison Park pitch only five minutes when he thundered home from outside the box to complete his team’s 2-0 victory.

Receiving possession 25 yards from goal, Sigurdsson deceived Hammers midfielder Jack Wilshere with a clever piece of footwork to tee up his shooting opportunity.

And with a flourish of his right boot, the Icelander sent the ball arcing beyond goalkeeper Roberto and into the top-left corner.

Sigurdsson will have to see off a strong field to land the prize when the winner is announced on Friday 8 November.

Teenage Brighton & Hove Albion forward Aaron Connolly makes the eight-man shortlist for his second goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Seagulls' 3-0 win four weeks ago.

Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial are both in the running for goals against Norwich City.

Manchester City maestro David Silva’s exceptional volleyed finish against Crystal Palace is nominated, so too the free-kick James Maddison fired home in Leicester City’s 9-0 rout of Southampton.

Matty Longstaff, the 19-year-old Newcastle United midfielder, is in with a shout of receiving the October award for his low 20-yard drive to defeat Manchester United.

The list of contenders is completed by Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez, who advanced to crash in a swerving long-range consolation effort in his side’s 4-2 loss to Chelsea last week.
