Calvert-Lewin: Players 'Unbelievably Frustrated' By Brighton Loss

Dominic Calvert-Lewin said Everton's players were left "unbelievably frustrated" and "extremely disappointed" by Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Blues led going into the final 10 minutes thanks to substitute Calvert-Lewin's neat 74th-minute finish.

However, Neal Maupay converted a VAR-awarded penalty, before the luckless Lucas Digne turned into his own net four minutes into injury-time.

Everton had earlier had their own penalty appeal - for a tug on Richarlison - reviewed by VAR to no avail.

The Blues can bounce back quickly when they welcome Watford to Goodison Park in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

"We're unbelievably frustrated to go in the lead so late on and then to end up not even coming away with a draw," said Calvert-Lewin. "It's extremely disappointing for the lads and the Club.

"I'm extremely disappointed and the mood in the dressing room is disappointed but we've got a massive game on Tuesday that we need to concentrate on now and get going again."

MARCO SILVA REFLECTS ON CRUEL BRIGHTON BLOW

Everton lose late in unfortunate circumstances.

Calvert-Lewin entered the fray on 72 minutes with the game intriguingly poised at 1-1.

Two minutes later he timed his run to perfection to meet Mason Holgate's clever slide rule pass and coolly slot the ball under Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan.

Asked about his mindset coming on, Calvert-Lewin added: "It's always the same for me. It was at a stage of the game where we were level and it's my job to come on and make an impact.

"But, as I said, we're disappointed with the final result and we've got to get ready for a massive game for us now."
