Help Make A Difference By Donating To Fans Supporting Foodbanks

Evertonians are being encouraged to support the ‘Fans Supporting Foodbanks’ campaign ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime Premier League fixture with West Ham United at Goodison Park.

Supporters arriving at the game can drop-off non-perishable food items at a number of collection points on matchday.

The Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative was set up by local Everton and Liverpool supporter groups in conjunction with the North Liverpool Foodbank, Anfield Breckside Community Centre, Unite in the Community and the Trussell Trust, to help combat food poverty.

The initiative has received the backing of both football clubs in the city as well as other clubs across the country and many fans’ groups.

Ahead of each matchday, volunteers from the North Liverpool Foodbank will be joined by supporters to help collect food donated by fans. Supporters can donate the items at a number of matchday drop-off points:

  • Foodbank van adjacent to the FanZone on Goodison Road
  • St Luke’s Church on Goodison Road
  • The People’s Hub on Spellow Lane
  • Everton Free School on Spellow Lane
  • Blue Base on Salop Street

Foodbanks offer a vital support network for people living in poverty. It is estimated foodbanks across the UK support more than one million people each year, including more than 160,000 in the North West. The North Liverpool Foodbank helps more than 250 people each week in the local area with emergency food parcels.

It is estimated that around 14 million people are living in poverty in the UK – including 4.5 million children – with more than one in five people currently living below the poverty line.

Sarah Atherton, Neighbourhood Manager at Everton in the Community, said: “The Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative has been ever present on matchdays at Goodison Park this season and we’re urging supporters to play their part in helping the local community in the battle against food poverty.

“If you’re coming to the game pick up a tin from your cupboard or grab a bag of shopping if you can spare it. Any items donated no matter how big or small will make a difference and provide vital support to our local area and a real lifeline for those needing a helping hand.”

Some of the priority items include:

  • UHT milk
  • Long-life juice or cordial
  • Coffee
  • Jar pasta/curry sauce
  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Instant mash
  • Rice pudding/custard
  • Jam
  • Toiletries
  • Cup-a-soup/noodles
  • Washing tablets
  • Toothpaste
  • Shower gel
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner

The Fans Supporting Foodbanks donation van will on site at Goodison Park in the build-up to every home match. Supporters attending the game can drop off any non-perishable food items right up until kick-off at any of the locations.
