Gomes Receives Portugal Call

Andre Gomes is joining up with Portugal after being summoned for European Championship qualifying fixtures against Luxembourg and Ukraine.

Everton midfielder Gomes returned to action as a substitute against Burnley on Saturday after missing three matches with a rib problem.

He has been capped 29 times by his country and was a member of the Portugal squad which won the 2016 European Championship.

The 26-year-old, who completed a permanent transfer to Everton from Barcelona this summer, replaces injured Real Betis player William Carvalho in manager Fernando Santos's squad.

Portugal occupy second spot in Group B and welcome Luxembourg to Lisbon on Friday before moving on to Kiev for a clash with table-toppers Ukraine three days later on Monday.

Lewis Gibson, meanwhile, has withdrawn from the England Under-20 party for Thursday's friendly meeting with Italy in Parma.

The Everton defender is suffering from a sickness bug.
