Richarlison features in Monday’s edition of the Liverpool Echo, with the Brazilian forward explaining how Everton’s hard work on the training pitch helped the team carve out a series of chances against Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Everton directed eight shots on target during the match – the most any side in the Premier League has managed against City since November 2015.

“We have been working to create and score more,” said Richarlison in an interview originally given to evertontv.

“Ederson played well and pulled off great saves from two Yerry Mina headers and some shots from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“We wanted to get them on the counter-attack because that is where you hurt Manchester City and we tried to follow the plan Marco Silva had for us.”

US publication Sports Illustrated reports on the fan-funded Moise Kean anti-racism banner that was unfurled at Goodison Park ahead of Saturday’s match.

The banner was the result of a fundraising campaign launched by fan group County Road Bobblers to show solidarity with Kean, who was racially abused while playing for former club Juventus at Serie A team Cagliari last season.

Back to the Echo, and Everton Women boss Willie Kirk admitted his frustration after his team’s encouraging performance against Manchester City at Southport FC on Sunday went unrewarded.

The Toffees fell to a first defeat of the WSL season as City escaped with a 1-0 victory.

“I think we thoroughly deserved something out of it," said Kirk.

"There were a few moments when we thought we'd got the equaliser and I don't think anybody would have denied us that, I think we were worth a point.”
