WATCH: Resilient Under-18s Edge Man United In Five-Goal Thriller

Action and reaction from the young Blues' 3-2 victory at Aon Training Complex.

Assistant boss Keith Southern praised Everton Under-18s after they overcame the blow of twice surrendering the lead at Manchester United to edge a five-goal thriller on Saturday.

Everton hit the front through Reece Welch’s 16th-minute header, only for the hosts to respond shortly after the half-hour mark through Charlie Wellens.

Striker Thomas Cannon then saw his 35th-minute effort cancelled out by a Charlie McCann penalty two minutes before the break.

However, Cannon, who had hit four goals in the previous weekend’s 10-0 thumping of Sunderland, struck again to complete the scoring early in the second half.

"I thought the lads did very well today, they showed many attributes that can help win a football match,” Southern told evertonfc.com. “I thought some of our play in the first half was really good, we had a threat on the counter-attack and we had control of the game.

"Second half, we were put under a lot of pressure and our lads had to show grit, determination and resilience to hang on to get a really good result."
