Thomas Cannon scored twice and Reece Welch was on target to propel Everton Under-18s to a terrific 3-2 victory at Manchester United on Saturday.

Forward Cannon, who netted four times in last week’s 10-0 thumping of Sunderland, conjured the decisive strike three minutes after half-time.

England Under-16 international Welch had opened the scoring on 16 minutes, with hosts United levelling through midfielder Charlie Wellens – who trained with his club’s first team this week – 16 minutes later.

Cannon’s first of the afternoon swiftly restored Everton’s advantage but the teams went in level after Charlie McCann converted from the spot two minutes before the break.

Cannon had the final word, though, securing a fourth Premier League victory in five matches this term for Paul Tait’s side, which returns to league action in a fortnight when Liverpool visit USM Finch Farm.
