Silva Sets Demands From Everton Team At Bournemouth

Marco Silva has challenged his Everton players to transfer their exceptional form at Goodison Park on the road as the Blues target a third victory on the spin in Sunday’s clash at Bournemouth (2pm).

Everton followed up a 4-2 Carabao Cup victory at Lincoln City with a 3-2 Premier League success against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out.

That breathless contest against Wolves at Goodison Park represented the Blues’ sixth consecutive home win.

Everton have scored 13 goals and conceded just two over the course of those matches, with Silva’s team consistently mixing expansive attacking football with resilient defensive displays.

The Toffees won 20 points on their travels in Silva’s maiden campaign as Everton manager in 2018/19, compared to 15 the season before.

Silva insists his team boasts the tools to further improve that record this term and believes a positive result at Bournemouth can be the catalyst for a strong run of form away from home.

The manager revealed he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the match at the Vitality Stadium. Jonas Lossl is expected to resume full training next week but remains unavailable as he recovers from a calf strain, while a quadriceps muscle injury continues to keep Jean-Philippe Gbamin on the sidelines.

“We are in a good moment at home and now is the moment to get good results away,” said Silva.

“Against Bournemouth, that is what we want to achieve.

“Our philosophy and approach to win when we are playing away is more or less the same [as at home].

“We may change some things in our strategy but our approach is to go there and win the match.

“It is a matter for us to keep improving, learn, keep doing the right things and do our best to win the game.

“For all teams in Premier League, it is tough to play away. We improved clearly our away performances last season [compared to 2017/18].

“But as a Club, we want more. The players know I always want more and they want more also.

“The ambition is big, and it is up to us to prove that every day in training and in the matches.”

Everton have kept 10 clean sheets in their past 15 Premier League matches. The Blues have accumulated 28 points over this period – the joint third-highest total in the Premier League.

Silva believes another shutout in Sunday’s clash at Bournemouth could hold the key to his team emerging victorious.

The south coast team head into the game on the back of successive Premier League defeats. Eddie Howe’s side were beaten by Manchester City and Leicester City in their previous top-flight outings, coming out on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline on both occasions.

But Silva insists the Cherries’ attacking quality means his team will have to be on their mettle if they are to take maximum points.

“They are an offensive team and with players who can score in each moment of the game,” he added.

“They have individual quality in their attack line.

“They have pace, quality, tough players to play against. They are a tough team in the set-pieces also. It is up to us to be solid and to play our way.

“We will create chances, for sure, if we play in our way. We have to be a solid team, to go there with big ambition but to respect them because they want to change their last results.

“We scored seven in the past two games [against Lincoln and Wolves], unfortunately we conceded some goals and we should do better. We have to work on that.

“Now is the matter for us to switch on again and prepare well to be in our best level.”
