Everton will take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Marco Silva’s team will face the Owls after beating Lincoln City 4-2 at Sincil Bank in the second round. The tie will be played on the week commencing 23 September.

Championship team Wednesday, who are managed by Lee Bullen, progressed to the third round of the cup with a 1-0 victory over Rotherham United.

The Blues’ previous match against the Owls was also in a third round League Cup tie at Hillsborough – with Everton securing a 3-0 victory in September 2007.

James McFadden netted a double, while Yakubu was also on the scoresheet.
