Manager Explains Everton Approach To Lincoln Tie

Marco Silva is promising his Everton players will go into Carabao Cup battle armed with all the information they need about opponents Lincoln City.

Everton travel to the League One club’s Sincil Bank home on Wednesday night aiming to overcome a Lincoln side they beat in a tight FA Cup third round match earlier this year.

Lincoln are riding high in League One after two promotions in three years and have recent form for bloodying the noses of higher-ranked opponents.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley both came unstuck against Danny Cowley’s team when Lincoln reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in 2016/17.

And Silva insists his side is fully in the picture about what is required to book a spot in round three.

“I am 100 per cent sure they [Everton’s players] will go into the match knowing everything about Lincoln,” manager Silva told evertontv.

“We will do the same for Lincoln [as for any opponent].

"Nothing changes in our day, nothing changes in our focus. We will have full focus on the match.

“Everything the players need to know, they will know.

“Then it is up to us to do our best, to show our quality... to respect ourselves and our opponents. They are living a dream, playing against a Premier League club like Everton, and will play with 100 per cent commitment.

“We have to equal everything they do.

“If you cannot do more, equalise their commitment, their desire, and then put our quality on the pitch.

“If we apply our quality, our level is different – but we have to be able to show it.

“We have big ambition to go through and play in this competition. Now this is the first moment for us to show that.”

Silva is without long-term absentee Jean-Philippe Gbamin but otherwise boasts a strong hand for the game in Lincolnshire.

Gbamin’s fellow summer arrivals Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi are both available after contributing encouraging displays from the bench against Aston Villa on Friday.

Energetic Italian striker Kean – who played as half of a two-man strikeforce next to Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Villa Park – also came on to good effect in Everton’s opening two games against Crystal Palace and Watford.

The 19-year-old arrived from Juventus trailing a reputation for hard work and sharp shooting in equal measure.

And his boss insists it is a billing Kean has lived up to in his first three weeks at the Club.

“He is a boy hungry to work hard and have an impact on our squad and on the Premier League,” added Silva, whose team overcame Lincoln 2-1 in that Goodison Park FA Cup match back in January.

“He is open to learning and working hard.

“Every time he goes on the pitch, he is ready to help the team.

“That is the best way to keep learning and improving as a football player.

“He has the skills to improve and now it is up to us to keep working with him to get the maximum from him.

“When you talk about pace and all these things, his profile and skills fit really well with the Premier League.

“In some moments we can play with two strikers, he did it with Juventus at times.

“It was clear to him what I expected and he had a good impact on the pitch [against Villa] – and so did Alex Iwobi.”
