Marco Silva says he saw in World Cup winner Djibril Sidibe "a real desire to play for Everton".

The Blues boss also believes the loan signing of the AS Monaco defender has left him with two "high-quality" right-backs, with the 27-year-old now set to vie with Seamus Coleman for a starting spot in Silva's side.

Sidibe, became Everton's sixth summer signing on Wednesday evening, with the Blues having the option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Silva stated last month that he wanted to add a right-back to his squad before the transfer window closed after youngster Jonjoe Kenny was allowed to join German side Schalke on loan.

And speaking to evertonfc.com, the delighted Portuguese said: "Djibril has fantastic experience, winning titles and playing many matches in a competitive league.

"He is a World Cup winner and he has the hunger to achieve much more in his career.

"It is important to have different options in each position and with Djibril and Seamus we now have two high-quality right-backs.

"Djibril has also shown to me he has a real desire to play for Everton and be part of the big things we are trying to create."

Sidibe has made 114 appearances in three seasons at Monaco and was named in the Ligue 1 team of the year in 2016/17 after helping his club to the French title.

He previously spent four years at Lille, having began his career with hometown club Troyes.

During his time with Monaco, Sidibe contributed directly to 27 goals – scoring six - and Silva says the defender's offensive qualities were a big sway in the decision to bring him to Goodison.

He added: "Djibril is a strong defender, which is the most important thing to play in our backline.

"He also has the capacity to attack, crossing and linking with his teammates.

"He showed with many assists at Monaco how he can help his team at both ends of the pitch."
