New Midfielder Explains Everton Shirt Number Choice

Jean-Philippe Gbamin will continue to wear 25 on his back after being given that shirt number for new club Everton.

Gbamin wore the 25 jersey for first club Lens in France and retained it when he signed for Mainz in 2016.

Fellow summer arrivals Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph claimed Everton’s 21 and 8 shirts respectively.

And Ivory Coast international midfielder Gbamin explained how his birthdate was a factor in his wish to take the Blues’ number 25.

“It has been my number since I started to play professionally,” Gbamin told evertontv.

“My birthday is on the 25th [September 1995] and my sister was also born on the 25th,” added the player who signed a five-year deal at Goodison Park on Friday.

“I have worn 25 at all my clubs and I am happy I have kept this number at Everton.”
