Coleman On 'Amazing' Stadium Plans Leading Exciting Everton Future

Seamus Coleman says he is awestruck by Everton's new stadium plans – and the right-back is urging supporters to have their say on The People’s Project during an ongoing month-long public consultation into the proposals.

Architect Dan Meis revealed designs for Everton’s planned new home on Bramley-Moore Dock at a fans’ event hosted by the city’s Titanic Hotel last week.

The 52,000-capacity venue would house one-quarter of supporters in a cavernous one-tier South Stand, with the intention to recreate Goodison Park’s partisan atmosphere a chief consideration in Meis's stadium blueprint.

Coleman joined Everton in January 2009 and is poised to enter his 11th full season with the Club.

After gaining a huge affinity for Goodison, the Irishman conceded it was going to take something special to convince him that leaving Everton’s 127-year-old home was the right call.

On viewing Meis’s designs – and learning more about proposals for a community-led Goodison Park legacy project – Coleman was won over at a stroke.

The results and feedback from Everton’s second public consultation on The People’s Project will help shape the Club’s final submission for planning applications for both Bramley-Moore Dock and Goodison Park.

“It says a lot about the Club that they want to involve the supporters in the process,” Coleman told evertontv.

“The Club is open enough to get out and gauge the fans’ opinions.

“That is what Everton is about, the fans and the people.

“It is great to see the people in charge acknowledge that and I am sure the fans appreciate having an impact and input. We want as much feedback as possible.

“The plans look amazing, unbelievable, really.

“I think everyone in the [Titanic] building was looking at them with awe.

“The stadium has a great feeling about it.

“Trying to retain the Goodison atmosphere is a massive thing and, by the looks of what Dan is doing, that will be the case.

“It is a very exciting time for the Club.

“We all love Goodison, it is amazing and has incredible history.

“But for it to be the next step, it has to be something right, and it [Bramley-Moore Dock] looks fantastic.”

Meis’s plans were met with a standing ovation following the American’s supporters’ event presentation.

And fans’ enthusiasm for what they had seen was shared inside the Club’s dressing room.

Everton’s players had a look at the designs 24 hours ahead of the public reveal – and Coleman admitted the scale of the project was greeted with unanimous approval and no little wonder.

"The reaction among the players was unbelievable, similar to that [from supporters]," said Coleman.

"We had a 3D view of the stadium as well, which was amazing to see.

"As players, you have to be excited by it. It makes you understand the size of club you are playing for.

"This club has a lot of history and going forward it wants to keep improving and building for the future – and to be successful.

"A stadium like that will attract top-quality players – and it is an exciting time for the Club."

Coleman was equally won over by the potential transformational impact of Everton’s People’s Project on North Liverpool, one of the UK’s most deprived areas.

The project won overwhelming support from more than 20,000 participants in Everton's first public consultation back in November. The second-stage public consultation runs until Sunday 25 August and will visit 12 locations across all six city region boroughs.

A new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is expected to boost the city’s economy to the tune of £1billion.

It will create up to 15,000 new jobs, generate approximately £34m of income for local families and draw an additional 1.4m visitors to the city every year.

“As footballers we can be selfish and just look at the stadium and think, ‘It would be great to play there’,” added Coleman.

“But Everton's impact on the community has grown massively year on year since I came to the Club.

“The genuine care and concern they have for the people of the community is brilliant.

“This stadium will generate money and create jobs. It will be amazing."
