Chairman Salutes 'Extraordinary' Bramley-Moore Dock Plans

Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright says the Club’s “extraordinary” proposed new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock represents a “wonderful vision”.

Architect Dan Meis received a thunderous standing ovation from Evertonians after revealing the stadium designs at a Titanic Hotel supporters’ event on Thursday.

Mr Kenwright conceded he would leave Goodison Park – Everton’s home for 127 years and which has hosted 2,657 Blues fixtures - with a heavy heart but insisted “we have to move on”.

“It is a wonderful vision, absolutely extraordinary,” said Mr Kenwright on a evening which also saw the Club reveal plans for a Goodison Park legacy project.

“Our feelings as Evertonians are tied to Goodison but we acknowledge the need to move.

“We have to move on.

“I promise you… we have so explored [redeveloping] Goodison.

“The whole package more than makes sense.

“I’ve certainly seen half of those [2,657] games.

“All of those memories, we can take with us.

“And our kids can take them, too. My Blue grandchildren can take them."

Chief Executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale outlined the three strands of Everton’s People’s Project.

The Bramley-Moore Dock stadium is predicted to generate a £1bn boost to the city’s economy. It will create 15,000 jobs and attract 1.4m extra visitors to the city each year.

Everton in the Community, the Club’s award-winning charity, will have the means to grow even further.

And the pioneering Goodison legacy plans will create significant health, education and community benefits.

“The key to me was Denise saying, 'Let’s have a Goodison legacy', because we are Goodison,” said Mr Kenwright.

“We are Liverpool 4.

“What a friend Goodison has been.

“But we know someone will be standing here in a few years’ time saying, ‘What a massive part of our lives Bramley-Moore Dock has been’.”

The Titanic event marked the start of a month-long public consultation into the Club’s plans, with the results of that consultation integral to Everton’s final planning application.

A first stage public consultation back in November revealed overwhelming backing for The People’s Project from more than 20,000 participants.

“We have Evertonians running our Football Club,” said Mr Kenwright.

“This is the biggest fan consultation in football.

“I don’t think any club has gone out and listened to its fans the way we have.

“We are a family, they are important to us.

“If we are going to move our house, we want them to like what it is going to be.

“It will have a main stand and great atmosphere. It is what we have at Goodison and we know it is what our supporters want.”

Mr Kenwright also underlined his appreciation for how world-class architect Meis has immersed himself in the project and committed to creating a home fit for Evertonians.

“We spoke to 10 or 12 companies [about designing the stadium] and Dan was at the top," added Mr Kenwright.

“He brought over his team and started working on a project for Everton, as opposed to a project for Dan Meis.

“And he became a real Blue. Nothing was too much trouble and he has the greatest team.

“Dan Meis is an Evertonian.

“He wants Goodson on the waterfront, which we all do.”
