What The Papers Say – July 23

The Daily Star tips Everton to undergo a “major squad revamp” before the summer transfer window closes 16 days from now.

Coming into Goodison Park, claims the paper, will be Atletico Madrid right-back Santiago Arias and Danny Welbeck, the former Arsenal and Manchester United forward.

The Star says Marco Silva will offset those purchases by agreeing to the sales of Cenk Tosun, James McCarthy, Kevin Mirallas, Oumar Niasse and Yannick Bolasie.

Quotes from Kurt Zouma feature in the Daily Mirror. Centre-back Zouma, who spent last season on loan at Everton from Chelsea, insists his priority for the forthcoming campaign is to play regular football.

The 24-year-old made 36 appearances during his time at Goodison Park and reclaimed his spot in the French squad.

Reports suggest Chelsea want to keep hold of the defender but with a European Championship finals next summer Zouma says “my target is to play at the Euros - but to be there you have to be playing at your club. So I am working very hard”.

The Daily Mail tips West Bromwich Albion to make a loan move for defender Mason Holgate, who spent the second half of last season with the Hawthorns club.

Michael Keane tells the Liverpool Echo of his belief he is becoming one of the “main men” in Everton’s team.

In the same paper, manager Silva underlines his confidence in Richarlison being fresh for the new campaign following the Brazilian’s Copa America exploits this summer.
