Pickford: Fab Addition Provides Attacking Quality

Jordan Pickford says Everton have signed a “leader and winner” in the shape of England teammate Fabian Delph.

Midfielder Delph, who joined from Manchester City this week, arrives boasting a decorated CV and rich experience of operating on the game's biggest stages.

Pickford has noted both Delph’s insatiable appetite for success and powers of motivation when the duo have shared an international dressing room.

In pure football terms, goalkeeper Pickford is certain Everton have acquired a player who will further supplement the Blues' healthy attacking arsenal.

“Fabian is a winner and trains and plays with a real desire to succeed,” Pickford told evertonfc.com.

“The lads will quickly see how much of a winner he is.

“He is a vocal lad. He is one of the leaders in the group with England and has captained the side, which tells you an awful lot about his character.

“He adds more experience to our squad, we have a lot of young players and having that extra bit of know-how is vital.

“As a midfielder, he gets on the ball on the half-turn and his first thought is to look forward.

“He brings a lot more to our attack and I think he will be great for us.”

Delph won six major trophies in four years at City – including successive Premier League titles in the past two seasons – and has won 20 England caps following his senior Three Lions debut in 2014.

The 29-year-old also played in an FA Cup final for Villa and joined Everton vowing to pour everything he has into chasing more success.

“He has been at City and won a lot, so he will bring a hunger and drive to want to continue achieving,” added Pickford.

“He’s a winner and very experienced. Everyone will see in training and games that he is very vocal and has his opinion.

“He is a leader and it is in his blood to work hard. He gives everything on the pitch.“The priority right now is to develop our fitness and regain sharpness ahead of the season.”
