Defender Gibson Relishing 'Dream' First-Team Chance

Lewis Gibson insists he is trying to take full advantage of being involved in Everton's pre-season training camp, saying the experience is "what dreams are made of".

Gibson, who will turn 19 on Friday, got his introduction to first-team action earlier this month when he started the Blues' historic pre-season friendly against Kariobangi Sharks in Kenya.

He impressed enough to be included in Marco Silva's party for the Club's nine-day stay in the Swiss Alps and featured again in Sunday's goalless draw with FC Sion.

Gibson, who signed for Everton from Newcastle United as a 17-year-old in July 2017, now wants more chances to shine and is trying to learn what he can from Everton's established players and array of international stars.

"It's unbelievable, it's what dreams are made of, really," he told evertontv. "I've been waiting a while now - since I was little I've just always dreamed of this and obviously now it's come and I'm just ready to take my opportunity.

"It's unbelievable to be around players who have done amazing things in their careers and I'm learning every day, taking notes off the gaffer and the players.

"The style of football we play - I think it suits my game and what I want to do. It's very good and the help's great. All the coaches and players are very supportive.

"When you first come up, it's quite shocking. You look around and, for example, when I walked out last week, to have Davo [Tom Davies], Andre Gomes, Leighton Baines for company, being next to them, it's quite surreal. But if you need their help, they're there for you and, if not, you can just get on with it.

"You have a look at what they do and what you can improve on. If you need any help and you go and speak to them, whether it's set piece, the way you play, defending, they're all great with you and it's just great to be here."
