Keeper Virginia Makes Reading Loan Switch

Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia will spend the 2019/20 season on loan with Championship club Reading.

Portuguese Virginia joined Everton from Arsenal in summer 2018 shortly after featuring in his country’s triumphant European Under-19 Championship campaign.

He recorded nine clean sheets in 12 Premier League 2 appearances and was unbeaten in the Premier League Cup semi-final and final, as Everton Under-23s landed a double trophy success in 2018/19.

Under-21 international Virginia, who was in his country’s squad for the 2016 Rio Olympics football tournament, originally moved to England with Arsenal after leaving Benfica in 2015.

Reading are managed by Virginia’s compatriot Jose Manuel Gomes and are preparing for a seventh successive campaign in England’s second tier.
