Dowell Joins Derby County On Loan

Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell has completed a season-long loan move to Championship club Derby County.

Dowell, who represented England at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship in Italy, helped Sheffield United win promotion to the Premier League during a temporary stay at Bramall Lane last season after joining in December.

The 21-year-old featured in 16 Championship matches for the Blades, adding to the 38 appearances he made in the division on loan with Nottingham Forest in 2017/18.

Dowell joined Everton aged seven and made his senior debut two months after his 17th birthday in a Europa League match against FC Krasnodar in December 2014.

He played in Everton’s EFL Cup ties with Rotherham United and Southampton last term.

Dowell will link up with a Derby team managed by Phillip Cocu, the former Barcelona and Holland player who guided PSV Eindhoven to three Dutch titles.

Cocu, who formed a productive alliance with Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands at PSV, took charge at Derby earlier this month, replacing Frank Lampard, who led the Rams to last season’s Championship play-off final before leaving for Chelsea.
