The home kit is now available to pre-order online and from Everton One and Everton Two.

Pre-order at www.evertondirect.com.

The home kit will be in stores and available to purchase online from Thursday 18 July 2019.

When will Everton wear the kit for the first time?

The first team will wear the kit for the first time on Sunday 7 July when they play the Kariobangi Sharks in Nairobi, Kenya.

What are the key elements of the 2019-20 home kit?

The shirt features a Club-inspired chest graphic based around iconic and identifiable elements of Goodison Park – with reference to Archibald Leitch, the renowned architect of the Bullens Road and Gwladys Street stands and the distinctive criss-cross steel that adorns the upper tier of the Bullens Road at the Grand Old Lady.

The modern design is also a break from the traditional solid blue body of the shirt while offering an additional retro feel with a nod to the ‘90s – with the back of neck ‘EFC’ sign-off detail taken from the 1991-93 home kit.

Classic white shorts and socks with a royal blue tip complete the 19-20 home strip.

What is the inspiration behind the kit’s ‘Built to Last’ theme?

This season’s kit theme aims to show the journey of both Everton and Umbro through their history together. The relationship between Everton and Umbro goes back to the 1930s.

Everton players have worn Umbro kits at key milestones for the Club – from 1933 when the Blues became one of the first teams ever to wear numbered shirts in their FA Cup final win against Manchester City, to winning a ninth League Championship in 1987 and lifting the Cup for a fifth time in 1995.

The 2019-20 shirt design looks to connect both players and fans with detailing influenced by the stadium’s architecture, referencing the famous Archibald Leitch girders around Goodison Park.

In 1907, world-renowned architect Leitch designed a new double-decker Goodison Road stand. The Scotsman would also design the next two new stands of the ground: both two-tiered, the first was the new Bullens Road stand in 1926 and the second the new Gwladys Street end in 1938 which featured the now iconic criss-crossed latticework. The criss-cross would become Leitch’s trademark. It continues to be heavily identified with the Club and plays a key part in Everton fans’ matchday memories.

What is the thinking behind the kit design?

Speaking to St Domingo, the exclusive shirtzine launched alongside the new Everton home kit, Umbro designer Bryony Coates says: “We knew we wanted this season’s kit to be different and we wanted to go with a graphic. For many years we have looked to change the texture of the fabric. This season we wanted to create something that had a high visual impact, both on and off the pitch.

“For this shirt we aim to create a visual representation of Everton at home. We researched the story of the Club and especially the Archibald Leitch stadium design and felt this captured the essence of Everton perfectly. We wanted to put the graphic at the heart of the shirt, so chose a simple collar. The one we selected houses the graphic really well.

“In the past we have had blue socks for the home kit but, according to the players, it’s easier to pick out a white sock on the pitch. Player feedback is really important to the process and this is a good example of how we incorporate that.”

What do the players think?

In interviews in St Domingo, the exclusive shirtzine publication launched alongside the new home kit, Richarlison, Seamus Coleman and Tom Davies all give their views on the 2019-20 strip.

Richarlison says: “Blue is important to me. It was the colour of my school team. It takes me back to the playground. It always reminds me of where I came from in Brazil, and for this, I’m very proud to be wearing the blue jersey of Everton Football Club. It’s clear to see and to feel the history at Goodison, and so it’s good to see the new jersey recognise the stadium in its design.”

Seamus Coleman adds: “I like how light it is. As long as they keep tapping into the history of the Club with the jerseys, I think that’s important. The fans will really like that. It’s about giving all you can for the shirt. This shirt represents everything we love about Goodison Park.”

How has the kit been designed to appeal to both fans and players?

Speaking to St Domingo, Umbro designer Bryony Coates says: “What the players get, the fans get. That’s what we focus on at Umbro. The fans wear it more than the players do so we take that into account when we are creating the kit.

“Of course, we think of it as a shirt first, but then we consider how it is worn off the pitch, with a pair of jeans, for example. This is why we dropped the hems – the shirt now sits just right.

“The eyelet fabric works well from a performance perspective – it wicks moisture away from the body. At the same time it’s great for graphic applications, allowing them to be bold and bright, appearing youthful. That’s why it works extremely well for lifestyle, too.”

When will the away kit and third kits be available?

The away kit will be released at the end of July and the third kit later in the summer. Keep an eye on evertonfc.com and the Club’s social media channels.
