Everton To Face Mainz And Sevilla In Opel Cup

Marco Silva will take his Everton squad to Germany in pre-season to participate in The Opel Cup, alongside FSV Mainz 05 and FC Sevilla.

The three-team mini-tournament will be held on Saturday 27 July at the 34,000-capacity Opel Arena in Mainz.

The two matches are the latest to be added to the Blues’ pre-season schedule, which already includes fixtures against Kariobangi Sharks (Sunday 7 July), FC Sion (Sunday 14 July), AS Monaco (Friday 19 July) and Wigan Athletic (Wednesday 24 July).

Everton will also return to Germany the weekend following The Opel Cup to face Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion on Saturday 3 August – seven days before the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday 10 August.

The format of The Opel Cup will see Everton play both FSV Mainz 05 and FC Sevilla on the same day, with each match lasting 60 minutes (kick-off times TBC).

Tournament hosts FSV Mainz 05 finished 12th in the German Bundesliga last season, while five-time Europa League winners FC Sevilla – who Everton faced at Goodison Park in the pre-season of 2017 – secured sixth place in Spain’s La Liga in 2018-19.

Ticket information and kick-off times for The Opel Cup will be announced shortly on evertonfc.com.
