Gana Gets Senegal Off To Winning Start

Idrissa Gana Gueye played an influential role as he captained Senegal to a 2-0 win in their Africa Cup of Nations Group C opener against Tanzania in Cairo.

The combative Everton midfielder played the full match, taking the skipper's armband and creating the opener just before the half-hour mark when he teed up Inter Milan forward Keita Balde to finish from close range.

Krepin Diatta blasted in a second from the edge of the box with 64 minutes gone as the Teranga Lions dominated.

Senegal are Africa's highest placed nation in Fifa's world rankings at 22nd but have never won the tournament. They are back in action on Thursday against Algeria (6pm BST).

Elsewhere, Yannick Bolasie started for DR Congo as his nation went down 2-0 to Uganda in Africa Cup of Nations Group A on Saturday. DR Congo now prepare for tournament hosts Egypt on Wednesday (9pm BST).
