Rodwell Set For Shield Showdown

Everton youngster Jack Rodwell is likely to skipper England 16s on Friday evening.

England take on Scotland with the winner lifting the Victory Shield.

Centre half Rodwell has played - and been captain - in England's two previous games - a draw with Wales and a win over Northern Ireland.

Rodwell's recognition has pleased Academy Director Ray Hall.

He told evertonTV: "We have Jack Rodwell, probably captaining his country on Friday in the decider of the Victory Shield.

"It says alot about him as a leader. They don't throw international caps around willy nilly and you have got to have something that impresses the coaches.

"He must have impressed with his technical ability and the respect he gets from other players.

"It's nice to see the boys coming through and getting international recognition."

Another Everton youngster, Darren Dennehy was in the Republic of Ireland under 19 side that lost 1-0 to France on Wednesday evening.
