Win Marred By Injury

Everton's 2-0 Academy victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday was dampened by an injury to Bjarni Vidarsson.

The Icelandic Under-21 international had to be taken to hospital following an incident in the 15th minute of the match.

Dewsnip told evertonfc.com: "There was quite a nasty clash of heads and Bjarni needed to go to the hospital.

"We all hope it is not too serious but we will know more after the weekend."

Without Vidarsson, Everton secured victory courtesy of goals from Steve Morrison and John-Paul Kissock.

Dewsnip was satisfied with the performance of all his side, but singled out the defensive duo of Rodwell and Denahey for special praise.

He added: "We certainly had a number of chances going forward and at the other end we were solid.

"I was delighted with the two centrebacks in particular. Rodwell and Denahey did very well along with Irving and Molyneux in the full-back positions."

Dewsnip has admitted the club's young players are facing a hectic end to the season because of the recent postponed fixtures.

The games against Liverpool and Barnsley in the Academy league have fallen foul to the recent cold weather, meaning that Saturday's 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday was the first match the Under-18s had played for three weeks.

With many of the side also utilised by the club's reserves, it will make for a demanding close to the season.

He told evertonfc.com: "We have re-arranged the derby match with Liverpool for March 30 and we have yet to set a date for the Barnsley match.

"It will be a demanding schedule but the players can learn from the experience."
