Jack Relishing Banter

Jack Rodwell is enjoying the banter that goes on amongst the playing staff here in America.

The 17-year old is enjoying his inaugural pre-season as a member of the first team squad and although he’s just three brief appearances into his Everton career, he doesn’t get left out when the stick is flying around!

“Yes we get it,” he told evertonTV. “But that’s what you want; you want to be involved with it all because it makes you feel like you’re one of them.”

“We all feel like a part of one big team. Everyone is getting on well with each other. For 16, 17 and 18 year olds being on tour with the senior squad in America…it doesn’t get much better than that!”

Even the training sessions are bringing a smile to Rodwell’s youthful face.

It can be tough going at times but there are also fun sessions organized by the coaching staff.

“There’s always a bit of fun in training,” he said.  “Yesterday we did some finishing and I think our team won it!”

Steve Round organized the finishing session (David Moyes was in one of the teams) and Rodwell is enjoying working with new assistant manager.

“Steve has come in and everyone likes him. He likes to make training enjoyable.”

Of course, the training is geared towards making sure the players are primed for the Premier League kick-off against Blackburn but for now, the players are focusing on the challenge waiting from Chicago Fire on Wednesday evening.

“That’s what we’re here for,” said Rodwell.  “Everyone is working hard towards the game and we’re looking forward to it

“The Americans are always fit, they will be used to weather and they should have the edge over us with regards to fitness but were not doing bad ourselves.”
