Jack The Man In The Middle

Jack Rodwell admits he is still getting used to his midfield role.

The youngster, who is still only 17, began this season playing as a defender for Everton's under 18 team.

But he rapidly progressed to the reserve side, where he was moved to a central midfield berth.

And it was in that same position that he has made three substitute appearances for the first team this season, most recently against Newcastle on the final day.

Rodwell told evertonTV: "I started off as a centre half and now they’ve moved me to centre mid.

"Hopefully I will settle in that role next season because I’m new to it.

"Training with the first team brings you up to tempo with the game, which obviously helps your game and allows you to improve."

Regardless of position, the Birkdale born academy product is able to reflect on a thoroughly enjoyable campaign.

"It’s been brilliant this season," he declared.

"I started with the Academy, moved onto the reserves but now I’m in the senior squad so it’s been brilliant.

"On my first team debut I was nervous but hopefully more appearances are to come.

"At the time I didn’t even think about it. I just wanted to get on the pitch and to play was amazing."
