Barkley Gets England Call

Young Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has been called up the England Under-19 squad for their upcoming UEFA Qualifying campaign in Belgium.

Barkley, 16, is named in an eighteen man squad managed by Noel Blake that features a number of players with experience at first team level including John Bostock, Jonjo Shelvey and Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham.

England begin their qualifying campaign with a game against Albania on October 8, before playing Cyprus two days later and concluding with a game against hosts Belgium on October 13.

Barkley won his first cap for the England Under-19s on September 2, playing in a victory over Slovakia and setting up the opening goal of the game for Michael Ngoo.

Seventeen year old defender Luke Garbutt has been placed on stand-by for the squad. Garbutt, who moved to Everton from Leeds in Summer 2009, has already represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level.

And defender Shane Duffy is in line for his first competitive action for the Republic of Ireland after they selected him in their Under-19 squad for their own qualifying campaign.
