Rodwell Ready To Fight

Jack Rodwell is ready to fight for his position in Everton's midfield.

The 19-year-old is aware that when everyone is fit and available, David Moyes has a wealth of options in that particular area.

Central midfield berths are likely to be contested between Rodwell, Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta, Leon Osman, John Heitinga and Marouane Fellaini.

So teenager Rodwell is keen to show his best in pre-season in order to stake a claim.

He told evertontv: "All I can do is work hard in training and hopefully it will pay off. We have healthy competition and we will all be fighting for places.

"We have more or less two players for every position which is great for the team and hopefully we can use the squad and get the best out of the players."

Rodwell, who made 36 appearances last term and penned a new five-year contract in May, is waiting impatiently for the Premier League season to get underway.

In the meantime, he is focussing on preparing himself physically and doing his best to impress in pre-season.

"That is the big one really," he declared. "You get up for the friendlies because you are playing for Everton but when the Premier League season kicks off everyone will be buzzing and I can't wait for the first game.

"It was good to get on the pitch for the first time," he continued in reference to the Toffees' 1-0 win over Sydney FC. "It was a good performance and a good crowd as well.

"I think we passed it around well. I have played in midfield a few seasons now so I am quite used to it. It's good playing alongside Mikel and Ossie and we were a strong side overall.

"We are all looking forward to the Melbourne game and hopefully we can get a victory."
