Rodwell Surprised By Award

Everton goal-hero Jack Rodwell was taken aback when he was announced as Sky Sports' man of the match on Saturday.

This was not because the modest midfielder wasn't happy with his performance - more the fact that he had only been on the field for less than a tenth of the match's duration.

He did manage to put the game safe in that short time, with the third goal in the Blues' 3-1 win over Manchester United and says that the players who were on the pitch for the majority of the match, deserve all the plaudits.

"I can't really take the man of the match because I've only come on five minutes or whatever," Rodwell told Sky Sports.

"Credit goes to all the lads who worked their socks off today. We knew we had to work hard because Manchester United are a good side, and we did that.

"It was a great team performance."

The 18-year-old - who has only recently came back from injury - was delighted with the victory and also to be a part of it. And he says that it demonstrates the camaraderie within the Everton camp.

"We've been on a good run of late, and it was nice to get three points," continued Rodwell.

"We're missing a couple of big players, but we've all come together this week.

"It's been a good week of training and it showed. We worked hard, we ran more than them and we went at them.

Rodwell added: "We're a great side home and away, and we've great players who can score goals."
