Rodwell Reveals Olympic Dream

Jack Rodwell admits it would be a dream to play for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Rodwell's Engand Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce will be head coach of the ‘Team GB' side next summer.

The Everton man has been a regular under Pearce and told evertonfc.com it would be an opportunity he'd relish.

"I would be proud at any time to put on a Great Britain shirt and it would be brilliant to do that at the Olympics," the midfielder told evertontv earlier this year.

"It's a once in a lifetime experience and if you are involved it's a memory you can cherish forever. If I get a chance to do that hopefully we will come out with a medal."

"He's a really good manager with a lot of international experience and he has a lot of respect from the players.

"He works well with the young players and he is British through-and-through. He is a player you looked up to as a kid and that is important when you are on the training pitch.

Ross Barkley has also been an England Under-21 squad member under Pearce, while several Everton ladies could be part of Hope Powell's GB women's squad.

Squads will comprise 18 players, 15 of which must be born on, or after, 1 January 1989. Three ‘over-age' players are also permitted.

Pearce said: "I'm sure this group of players will relish being part of not only a huge tournament in this country, but a unique one competing together and representing the UK."

And Powell added: "I'm delighted to be in the position to be able to take a team into such an illustrious tournament, I just wish it were starting tomorrow."
