Rodwell Aims For Strong Finish

Jack Rodwell wants to use the next three games to recapture his best form ahead of a big summer of action.

Rodwell is back in Everton's midfield after a period out with injury and has played all of the last two games.

Earlier this week he was named in the provisional England Under-21 squad for the European Championships that take place later this year.

"My aim now is to finish strongly in the last few games, continue to improve my match fitness and then go into the summer full of confidence to show everybody what I can do.

"I've been a long way from top form this season. It started off with the injury at Villa which put me out for a while and I couldn't seem to get back going. And then I picked up a couple more injuries but hopefully that is behind me now and next season people will see a lot more of me."

Rodwell, who shrugged of speculation linking him with a summer transfer away from Everton, is part of an initial 40-man party named by Stuart Pearce for the tournament in Denmark.

"Speculation doesn't affect players at all. You focus on the games and don't let anything like that affect you," declared Rodwell.

"I'm delighted to be selected in the provisional Under-21 squad. A couple of years ago playing in the tournament helped my development massively and hopefully it can do the same thing for me this summer. If you look at the German side that won it two years ago a lot of that team went to the World Cup and did well there so you have to look at that for inspiration."

More immediately, Rodwell is focussing on this weekend's clash with Manchester City - a side who are set to include some of his erstwhile colleagues.

"I know Micah Richards, Joe Hart and Adam Johnson from England Under-21s and they are all good players," said Rodwell.

"Adam Johnson is really quick and likes to cut inside, Micah Richards is really strong and a good defender and Hart is obviously England's number one so they are all good young players."
