No Olympics For Rodwell

Jack Rodwell will not take part in this summer's home Olympic games after missing out on a call-up to Team GB.

Rodwell was thought to be a contender for a place but injuries have restricted the midfielder to just four appearances so far in 2012 and manager Stuart Pearce has decided not to include the 21-year-old in his 18-man party.

Academy product Rodwell last week said he was disappointed to learn David Beckham would not be in the squad but will now have to contemplate his own omission.

As expected, Pearce named Manchester United's Ryan Giggs, Liverpool's Craig Bellamy and Manchester City's Micah Richard as his three over-age players for the tournament, which is predominantly for Under-23s.

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey, Swansea duo Joe Allen and Scott Sinclair and Giggs' club teammate Tom Cleverley are among the other midfielders named by Pearce.

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, capped twice by England, is also included.
