Moyes' Olympic Warning

David Moyes has warned his players that they won't get extra time off for playing in the Olympics.

This summer a ‘Team GB' squad will be selected to take part in the London games. The party will be essentially an Under-23 squad but three over-age players are allowed.

Stuart Pearce is in charge of the GB side and around 180 players have received preliminary letters inviting them to be involved.

And Moyes revealed several of his squad have been contacted as part of that process.

There are also European Championships this summer, though players won't be expected to play in both the Euros and the Olympics.

But with the latter tournament not finishing until 11 August, Moyes admits his concerns.

He said: "Quite a lot of our players have had letters of invitation. Am I worried? I am because there's a lot of them who have got all sorts of things going on over the summer so I am a bit worried about the whole thing.

"It's a real difficult one. It would be hard to say to players not to, but in the same breath this (Everton) is their bread and butter and this is where they get paid."

No names have been revealed at this stage but Jack Rodwell and Ross Barkley have already featured under Pearce for England's Under-21s, with Rodwell also having been pictured in the Team GB supporters' shirt.

"They do need holidays and they can't then be asking for spare time off that doesn't fit in," continued Moyes. "If they say ‘I'm playing in the Olympics then I might need a week off to recover', there can never be anything like that.

"We accept international tournaments. What we're willing to do to those boys is give them a bit of extra time off because the players definitely need a holiday.

"But I think the players going to the Olympics will have to consider their own holiday time and it couldn't be eaten into the Club's time."
