Duffy Out To Impress

Shane Duffy hopes his season-long loan at Yeovil Town has provided the experience required to break into Everton's own first-team.

The 22-year-old defender spent the majority of the 2013/14 campaign at Huish Park, impressing regularly as the Glovers fought for survival in the Championship.

That battle may not have been a victorious one, but Duffy is now targeting the fight to establish his place in the Blues' senior squad.

Speaking to evertontv after featuring in Tuesday's friendly at Tranmere, the centre-back said: "It was one of the first times I've played a full campaign and hopefully I can thrive off that this season.

"I enjoyed playing every week and obviously it didn't go too well for Yeovil as a club but personally I was happy. Hopefully I can do the same here - I'll keep working hard to get my chance."

Playing the first half at Prenton Park, Duffy made his first outing under Roberto Martinez since last summer's opening pre-season fixture against Austria Vienna.

And refreshed from the summer break, the Club's former Under-21s captain is eyeing the chance to impress in the upcoming games - starting with Sunday's meeting with Leicester City in Bangkok.

He added: "Pre-season has been good. Usually you're just excited to be back and the more games we have, the better the lads are going to be.

"That's what it's all about and hopefully we can pick the standard up in the next few games.

"[Thailand] is a nice place. I've never been so I’m looking forward to it. Getting minutes is what it's all about now.

"It means everything to all the young players - especially playing for Everton - to be out there with the seniors and the manager. It's an open window for him. Everything matters as soon as you go out there.

"We're trying to impress him in training and on the pitch."
