Everton Under-18s defeated Middlesbrough 3-0 at Finch Farm on Tuesday afternoon.

The young Blues performed well in a wind-affected contest and were two goals to the good by half-time.

Martin Sherif looped a header over the goalkeeper from a Daniel Maher cross in the 19thminute and then Isaac Heath drilled home a low shot just after the half-hour mark.

In between, Everton created the better chances.

Jacob Beaumont-Clark wasn’t too far away with an effort provided by Daniel Maher and then the same player shot wide from the edge of the box after creating space for himself.

At the other end, Seb Jensen had to be lively to push away a snapshot from Charlie Lennon.

The visitors had the better of things in the second half, creating several decent openings without breaking through.

Aidan Bridge curled a direct free-kick over the crossbar and Jensen saved well to deny Rio Patterson-Powell, who will feel he should have scored when through on goal. Bridge then had another chance but, again, Jensen was equal to it.

For Everton, Coby Ebere fired an effort straight at the Boro keeper Cameron Simpson, and in the 88th minute Isaac Heath, following some intricate footwork, lashed a terrific shot that crashed back off the crossbar and bounced on the line before being scrambled away.

The third, and decisive, goal came with quite literally the last kick of the game. Substitute Owen Barker skilfully created an opening for himself on the edge of the box and when his shot was blocked he reacted quickly to steer home the rebound.

The ball was still in the back of the net when the referee blew the final whistle!

Everton Under-18s are back in action on Saturday 22 April (11am BST), when they travel to take on Newcastle United.
