Everton were no match for the newly-crowned Premier League 2 Champions, losing 7-0 at the Etihad on Friday night.

It was a tough night for the Blues against a team who have deservedly retained the Under-23s title.

Before City started their goal salvo, Everton actually came closest to opening the scoring.

Charlie Whitaker volleyed a Lewis Dobbin ball into the area against the crossbar and Tom Cannon had an effort from a narrow angle scrambled off the line.

That was as good as it got though and the opening goal midway through the first half changed the game completely.

Cole Palmer curled a lovely finish past Harry Tyrer and then the scorer turned provider when he flicked a clever little pass between defenders for Rico Lewis to slam home from the right of the penalty area.

The impressive Cole also scored the third with a magnificent direct free-kick from 22-yards that found the top corner and gave Tyrer no chance.

As so often happens when one team is in full control of a game, the second half lacked the intensity and competitiveness of the first.

The fourth goal came early in the second half. City took a short corner and eventually passed the ball through the Everton defence before Kayky slid it under Tyrer.

Everton just couldn’t find a way through, although Shea Charles had to defend well to prevent Emilio Lawrence from getting a shot away.

Liam Delap scored the fifth and sixth goals with a couple of close-range tap-ins and substitute Darko Gyabi added the seventh.

Tyrer then made a terrific flying save to turn over a ferocious 30-yard drive from CJ Egan-Riley as City pushed for another goal.

Despite this crushing defeat, Everton have avoided relegation from Premier League 2 Division 1 after Leeds United could only draw at Arsenal.
